Welcome to 617LiveCity... "THIS CITY IS OURS!"

We need to talk to congrass or our leaders in bring Boston to life, or what I mean by that is Boston does not have enough support in the city, to even have music supporter to even look at our city.

So no disrepsect to any artist's from Boston, but the entertainment and night scene has not been impressive in about 20 years, when we had acts like new edition, new kids on the block, edo g and mostly donna summers.

We need a casino, late night clubs (all night, wee in the morning) and than we can start networking, and that will bring in more people.

Funny you should say this... Currently some choice individuals, including myself, are working on a project to form a guild or union sorta-speak to address and hopefully resolve some of these issues... and breath new life into our New England scene.

If you notice there is no visible network for artists and entrepreneurs in New England let alone Boston... and Boston being one of the major cities not only on the east coast but the country isn't that strange? How does this happen? No unity... no voice...

Good post

I agree with you Daneja, that's why I've created a platform for all in New England Up Front Magazine. We need to connect the dots. All it takes is one to hold the door open for thousands to access the industry directly. There's no need for any talent from Boston or New England for that matter, to go anywhere to be put on (NY or LA, whatever). If you agree with this then speak up.

If they don't want to come to us then we'll build our own. There's enough of us out here to do whatever it takes to create A/R's, Producers, Promoters, etc...., if we can bring hollywood to town, why not bring the industry (long over due) as well? Let's create what we need. If we need A/R's to be put on, then create A/R's (build them, hire them or grow them).

My mission in life is to make sure no other artist or entrepreneur has to go through what I've watched happen over the last 20 years in the Bean and surrounding communities any further. Boston is a major, major metropolis known around the world. Let's act like it and start promoting, supporting and helping each other grow.

With the right exposure, connections and control, we can have all of them coming to us for exposure and connections.

If your not afraid of success, then let's do this and make them take notice of all of us. We are a very wide and diverse urban culture and we can make this happen.

That's why NEUF was created. With the help of people like you, me and others that feel the same, we will be putting an end to this gap in our society. We must join forces and expose and support what's ours first.

Boston, wake up! Only we can change this situation. We can't depend on others to do it for us.

We must come together and start listening to and help our local talent , entrepreneurs and businesses as well as attending their events showing them support only, then is when we'll be successful.

No voice for real! I witness a situation, when a black promoter i've done work for. This promoter wanted to film their night, and the owner told him NO! Then that same owner allowed a white promoter the ability to film his night, multiple times! What type of non-sense is that! If the promoters in this city was organized stuff like this wont happen. The owner will take the money and treat people different, cause he dont want his Club to be viewed as a Black club! So no filming to be used as promotion...

Unity ALWAYS changes things, most time for the better. Not sure why people in this region havnt figured that out yet????

I don't know about everybody else. I'm bored. Only so many clubs I can go to and do the same thing over again. Dance to the same music and buy the same over priced drinks.

If we can do all you say to bring in talent to boston, then why can't we do it for the talent we already have here? With the right collaboration and networking connections it doesn't matter about having casinos and late night clubs to hold venues in. We can still support and bring talent to the fore front. I also agree that City Hall and beyond must start supporting our youth and entrepreneurial businesses. We can create our own night scenes as we are already doing.

If people in Boston and surrounding communities can come together without all the drama, we will be successful. I truly believe that we can still pack a spot, have a good time and support at the same time.

Once we connect the dots, we won't have to bring in the people, they'll kick the door down trying to get in.

I agree whole heartedly. I am a committe member for the New England Urban Music Awards and this is our 4th year awarding local artist for their talent. I envision this yearly event growing so big that it becomes the elegant event that will draw in big names from all over. However, that can only be accomplished with Boston's promoters, producers, singers, dancers, news outlets, radio stations and other pertinent members of the community banning together to support one another.

its all valid but what happens is we are talking about things that only Organizing can solve
and yet for most of us this is something foreign, or not a tool in our shed that is sharp
i have been talking with Dane about mixing grass roots and revolutionary principles into the hip-hop/entertainment movement
you would be surprised at the results you can achieve with little to no dough and little support to create a groundswell
its all strategy using the media, the players, the politicians, the system
truly pimping the system to make them acquiesce to points
they would have never originally considered
the problem with is cats is just Fighting for their right to party
then it will be empty and hollow and never go anywhere
thats not even a cause i can champion
if it has an angle and an agenda and a mission, focus and purpose
then we are on to something
we can party but then also come out and take a stand on
racism, youth violence
and in the entertainment sphere we need to lok at the undercurrent
of racism that prevents black people from the same
economic opportunities inthe entertainment field, booking, venues, security, permits, etc.
that is blatant discrimination and may be class action law suit worthy which will make them pay attention...

if we can organize the entertainment circuit
to become the pulse and voice of our circumstance then we will win
this is what happenes in the 60's and 70's the music and scene spoke to the issues
the same crowd at the concert were at the protest
sometimes the concert was the protest
and MONEY was made, large amounts and much of it went to
fund movements and launch careers that then made more MONEY
large amounts and became benefactors to those same causes...
see the cycle?
New Edition never came back beyond Biv's B-Ball tourneys and B. Brown's 8-Ball tourneys
New Kids on the Block is all about southie and white irish Dot
Guru - Keith Elam even though from Black Boston's finest has not yet reached back for his home
Ray Dog - damaged reputation but strangely the most likely to help the hood and speak up

so if we adopt issues larger than us
by using our resources to do good in the hood
by generating parties that give back to community initiatives
by starting a fund to buy a crib and turn to a community house for meetings, events, youth
there are a hundred ideas that we could activate on
hopefully brothers and sisters will join on with myself
and others who are looking to infuse the two worlds into one.

PEACE
